In 2016, there was a genuine shock by Democrats, and not a few Republicans, who were completely convinced that Hillary Clinton was going to win. Frankly, I believe even Trump privately thought (never said) that Clinton would win. His previous attempts were all to gain attention to his brand – the Trump name, not as a serious attempt to win. His first win had to be as much a surprise to him as it was to everyone else.

With the 2016 loss, the Democratic Party drove hard for a win in 2020. In 2020 there was a perfect storm of COVID, the Republican Party snubbing mail-in and early voting, and a mostly senile, mostly middle-of the road candidate propelled a mediocre Biden to the presidency.

However, by 2024, the Democratic Party had lost its way. Regardless of what the media was pushing, no sane Democrat was expecting Harris to win. At least not my circle of liberal friends. The only ones shocked by the Harris loss was the Kool-Aid drinkers who had somehow convinced themselves that Trump was indeed the second coming of Hitler, that Biden was the best president since FDR, and Harris was a brilliant, dynamic politician and the young bright future of the Party. These are the people that are lashing out a the world through social media, but I feel like they are even more of a minority compared to the Hillary loss in 2016.

So what does the Democratic Party need to do to start being a serious and winning (Presidential) Party again?

1. Stop with the coronation of candidates. As much as I despise primaries – especially private party primaries paid for on the public dime – they are held for a reason. It is a crucible in which the Party membership can vet their candidates. Where they come out stronger and better able to take the greater heat of a national campaign. The Party's media allies should not coddle these candidates. Ask this – would the Party be better off today if Young or Sanders had won the primary in 2016? Both would still have lost to Trump, but with a real primary process, a better candidate would have likely emerged in both 2020 and 2024.

2. Your turnout strategy was adopted by the Republicans – you don’t hold the same turn-out advantage in 2024 that you did during the 2020 COVID election. The election is still on the issues and ultra-liberal candidates don’t win the independents and the swing states. These swing states and independents still matter.

3. Which leads to stop running on your Party’s micro-issues. Regardless of the media, abortion was not a big issue item. Blue and mostly-blue states already have relaxed laws and regulation on abortion. Red and most red states aren’t as keen on abortion as an issue as the Democratic Party thinks. Also, I have found the pro-choice crowd seems to have this perception that ALL women are pro-choice. That simply isn’t the case. In the deep red states, women don’t want abortion to be on demand up to birth. It’s still the economy, stupid. Trying to flip the reality that people hated Trump era economics and loved Biden era economics wasn’t being bought when prices were up 10-60%. Economy matters a lot more than the stock market.

4. Your lawfare failed. Contrary to what most Democratic leadership seems to think, American’s aren’t stupid. They clearly aren’t convinced that twisting the law into a pretzel to get a conviction for what amounted to an accounting error was a gross over-reach. You can say felon all day long, but it was in a kangaroo court, in front of a kangaroo judge and jury. Throwing everything legally at your opponent smacks of third-world political bullshit and every sane American hates that stuff.

5. Stop telling Americans that they are horrible people. Stop telling women that their fathers and husbands, brothers and sons are horrible people. Stop telling us that we are racist/sexist/fascist/Nazi bigots. We don’t like that. Why does this have to be said? I’ve lived in country that are truly racists and sexist – not even the Republican Party can come close to other countries – including your supposedly liberal European countries. AND your media allies need to start smacking you for this nonsense, not encouraging it.

At the end of the day our country has become worse off. A peaceful transfer of power is now a thin veneer concealing the hatred that we as a people have against one another as reflected in our leadership. We do not live in a country that would make space for the winner and loser in the election to become friends like Bush and Clinton. We are dangerously close to being in a nation where the voters for the winner cannot be friends (even family) with the voters of the loser.

But this is still OUR country, and the winner will be OUR President, and I will feel this way regardless of the winner. Let’s move forward with putting down the fists, shaking hands, and go having a beer.

“Trump-proofing” measures to stymie his presidency

Despite all obstacles, the voice of the American people was heard loud and clear on election night. Now, protecting our freedom requires vigilance. We must be ready to expose and condemn any efforts by the same forces that tried to undermine Trump’s last term as they attempt to do it again—especially through so-called “Trump-proofing” measures designed to limit his ability to govern and fulfill the mandate the American people have given him.

Why CNN won't report on my being added to Quiet Skies

CNN’s Dana Bash promised me and the American people that she would “definitely follow up on” my being added to the secret terror watch list Quiet Skies. She never did report on this political retaliation by the Harris Administration, because it would completely undermine their efforts to convince voters that dissenting voices will “have a seat at the table” if Kamala becomes president.

No surprise warmongers support Kamala

As a soldier, there is nothing more dismaying than a “Commander-in-Chief” like Kamala Harris who is essentially a mouthpiece and puppet of the Military Industrial Complex and National Security State. It’s no surprise that warmongers like Liz Cheney, Dick Cheney, and Adam Kinzinger are supporting her.

I offer my heartfelt thanks and aloha to President Donald Trump for allowing me to play a small part in his victorious campaign to Make America Great Again. It has been a great honor and privilege to get to know Donald Trump, a kind and courageous person who sincerely desires the best for the American people — and indeed for all the people in the world. It is my great hope that the American people will loudly condemn any efforts by those who did everything they could to sabotage his previous presidency to try and do it again.

Our Final Salute
How to truly honor our fallen on Memorial Day and every day

Memorial Day is always a tough day. While the ads and signs say “Happy Memorial Day!” - for many of us who serve or have served, and Gold Star families, it’s not a happy day. It’s a day to remember our friends who are no longer with us. It’s a day where we think of our last memories with our friends who were killed in combat, thoughts of the loved ones they left behind, and reflection on the selfless sacrifice they made in service to our country.

In 2005, I was deployed to Iraq where I served in a medical unit. Every single day I was confronted with this high human cost of war.

We remember the day that we celebrated their lives, going through the final roll call, and deafening silence when their name was called with no response. We gave them one final salute to their empty boots, helmet, and rifle.

As we gather at cemeteries and memorials all across the country where our heroes have been laid to rest, we are reminded of the very real, high cost of war, and who pays that price — never forgetting our brothers and sisters who still serve in harm’s way today.

That cost seen in the names on gravestones that we adorn with lei and American flags. The memories of our friends live on our hearts.

So nothing angers me more than to see the hypocrisy every Memorial Day coming from warmongering politicians and media “pundits” who feign respect, gratitude, and empathy for those who paid the ultimate price in service to our country, while simultaneously advocating for more military adventurism, the new Cold War and nuclear arms race.

They don’t seem to understand, appreciate or care about who pays the price for these unnecessary costly wars. They carelessly throw around possible numbers of casualties without recognizing every one of those 'numbers is a person, one of our fellow Americans — someone’s son or daughter, husband or wife, mom or dad.

They don’t know what it’s like to say goodbye to your family and loved ones, giving them one last hug and kiss goodbye, knowing that it could your last.

They don’t know the anxiety that these families live with every single day, every hour and minute, when their loved ones are serving abroad, praying for their safe return and dreading that phone call or knock at the door that could forever turn their world upside-down.

During my first deployment to Iraq, I didn’t fully understand or appreciate the stress that my family went through. I was focused on my mission and doing my job. It wasn’t until I came home that it truly hit me.

The plane landed at Hickam Air Force base in the dark pre-dawn hours. We stepped off the plane and walked down the steps to the tarmac, feeling the sweet Hawaii trade wind breezes, as the sky began to turn a beautiful array of pinks and oranges. It was so good to be home. We had our last formation, and the general called out, “Dismissed!" - releasing us after what had been a very long eighteen-month deployment. I ran toward my family, and into the arms of my dad first. As we held each other tight, my dad cried. I had never seen him cry before. It was at that moment that the weight of my service on their hearts became clear.

The way to honor our troops who sacrificed their lives for our country is to prevent unnecessary, costly wars which will result in the deaths of many more of our brothers and sisters in uniform.

While we shed tears, share stories, times of sadness and times of joy, thinking of our friends, celebrating the lives that they lived, let’s remember the purpose they chose for their lives, their strength, courage, and deep love for our country. Let’s make sure that today, and every day, we honor them. We make sure that they are never forgotten and that their sacrifice was not made in vain.

On this Memorial Day, and every day, may we remember those who gave all, and that war should only be waged as the very last resort to keep the American people safe and free.
